New Beginnings!

Sun Mar 31, 2013, 7:10 AM
Hello everyone!

So I decided to suspend my Facebook page... Yep.
And it honestly feels great!
I feel like this massive burden has been taken off my back.

I love cosplay and I have no plan on stopping but I began to doubt these " Fan pages"

I've made mistakes, I've grown and will continue to learn. I've matured and come to realize that I want this to be my beloved hobby and not my job. I don't want the attention I thought I once wanted. I want to make these costumes and bring a little life to them for my own reasons and share them with people that want to see them instead of forcing my updates onto everyones feeds.

I got back into cosplay in 2011. Everything was new to me again. I didn't have parents around telling me I couldn't wear this or dress up as that and I suppose I just wanted to push my own limits. I found people enjoyed my costumes more when there was less of the actual costume, it felt nice to have people recognize what I was wearing (or wasn't haha). It made me feel all those late nights, broken sewing machines and stabbed fingers were worth something. It's easy to get drunk of that kind of positive feedback but recently I began to see past it.

I've always been a people pleaser. The thought of anyone disliking me or what I do has had me in heaps on the floor. I fell victim to the pressure of wanting to be a "hot cosplay chick" because it was the cool thing to do. I wanted to fit in and be admired. I wish I had been a little smarter.
I don't regret any of my costume choices, some I wish I handled with a little more class but I wouldn't change anything.
I've had enough of what feels like this never ending competition for page views and likes and I refuse to try "whore" out half-assed work in order to meet peoples expectations.

I am not happy with how things were and it sounds like I wasn't the only one. Getting slandered and harassed just wasn't what I wanted out of all this. Far from it. Negative comments constantly about my body and appearance to people doubting my work. Just wasn't worth it all in the end.

I feel happy, the page is still there incase I ever change my mind so I'm just seeing it as an indefinite break from Facebook and the ever so popular "Fan pages".

I feel amazing at the moment.

I will cosplay who I want at my own pace. I've grown old and tired of the fame games and the nastiness that comes along with them. Back to the days with Fandoms and passion for cosplay.
Here from now on you will see a lot more heart in my work, more effort, characters I will cosplay because I WANT to cosplay them ( Chii, Fuck yeah! Chest bind for Chobits!) Right here on my dA.

I did this for myself and my well being. No one else.

And just like that I feel more motivated then I ever have.

Semper fi to you. Cosplay is for love and fun (work too for some), but you as a person comes first. If you don't like something you change it, right? People of Facebook being jerks, leave. Someone is leaving rude comments, ban their ass. Anything worse, call the cops. I hope all your cosplays go well and you have a blast doing them. Would love to see Chii, so much cute! Also cute pic with Rapunzel and the Prince or is that Flynn Rider? Either way, cute. Go you!

Being beautiful comes with its pitfalls. There's always going to be some lame-brained asswipe out there who just sees you as a pair of boobs and nice legs because they have a fetish for 2D imagery. Of course, being able to anonymously hide behind a keyboard only bolsters their courage to be a jerk.

The people who post positive comments, your true fans are the ones who truly matter. Yaya, Messy and other famous cosplayers also deal with the same scrutiny. Follow their example and dont let it discourage you. Yes you're beautiful and you are very, very talented. If you stop doing what you love, they win.

Don't let them win. Keep being you, and share what you want with the world.

You are a great cosplayer, and with that will come some hate. People get jealous, opinionated, and generally judge others that do what they want but think they can't, or push their views on others in some sort of justification of their own exsistence. They don't matter. If you try to please everyones hearts you will find your own left in pieces. People are going to be harsh, but that's usually a sign that you are doing something right. As a society we are taught to judge others who pursue their dreams to justify why they don't pursue their own, it has nothing to do with you, only them. Don't let people stop you from being you! Do your best and what you love and let that be enough! Good luck and best wishes! And on a side note, which doesn't matter anyways, but you're my favorite cosplayer hands down, I made this deviantart profile just so I could check out your work!

I don't know if you will read this, let alone reply. But, I hope you do because I do take an interest in your work and the words you provided above.

As someone who enjoys cosplay and wants to get into the hobby, I take an appreciation for what it is, it's roots, and for the sake of art and passion. However, having like a variety of cosplayers on facebook, I am not entirely sure how I feel about some or what I should feel. I definitely agree cosplay is not consent and that whole nine yards. I genuinely believe in being respectful and using manners. And if you are to pay compliments, then do so in an appropriate manner. But, I also kind of feel like there is this perpetual cycle that the publishers, artists, and some cosplayers keep pushing which holds back some of the equality, respect, and realness that women deserve.

So when I 'like' some cosplayers, I wonder if I am part of the problem. For instance, I think YaYa Han does great work, but she did openly go under the knife and have work done, just like VampyBitMe. And obviously they push their purchased assets in front of the camera often. They will often choose clothing and costumes that cater to that as well. Don't get me wrong, I have seen some awesome stuff, but it feels like they are wanting the fame, willing to do what it takes, and it makes if feel all the less genuine and for the wrong reasons. What kind of message does that send to young women or any woman? That they are not good enough and need to look a certain way to get somewhere? So yeah, I don't know how to view it. Some are very obvious in their approach and work while others might already have been models or workout enthusiasts, so it wasn't a big stretch (Jessica Nigri, Jenn Croft).

At the same token I can appreciate a pretty lady without being that troll and posting R rated comments. But, when seeing some pictures and their obvious targeted audience, what kind of audience were they looking to get? Was it for cosplay at that point?

But, if I make some of my personal judgements and form opinions on the matter then I am also likely to be critiqued and slandered for not 'appreciating a woman' and being 'a sourpuss.' Maybe I want better treatment and ideologies for women. Maybe I don't believe fan service is a good way to achieve that. I suppose if one were strictly doing it for modeling and attention then it would lend more justification to what they were doing.

Not many obvious answers.

Sorry for the typos. Didn't know there were no edit options to a comment.
